Photochemistry and stability of the atmosphere of MarsAn understanding of the composition, structure, transport and photochemical processes of the present atmosphere of Mars is essential for addressing such fundamental questions as the stability, evolution and the origin of the Martian atmosphere. This paper discusses our current knowledge of the photochemistry and stability of the Martian atmosphere, with special emphasis on new models and work in progress.
