Materials All Around UsThe purpose of this journal exercise is to determine the properties of the materials in the environment around us, and to relate these properties to the materials systems for which they are used. Students will develop a strong rationale for gaining knowledge of engineering materials. The journal entries will serve as a starting point classroom discussion. Along with the journal, students are required to bring samples to class of 'found' materials and products composed of materials systems. Students are encouraged to be materials observers.
