Development of Minimally-Invasive Aortic Pressure and Flow InstrumentationTo better understand the mechanisms underlying the effects of microgravity on the cardiovascular system, cardiovascular models have been developed. These computational models estimate changes in cardiovascular parameters such as total peripheral resistance and systemic arterial compliance, and require high quality aortic pressure and flow measurements as their input. Many of these measurements are obtained in experimental animals and therefore the invasiveness of the instrumentation must be as kept to a minimum. These considerations are the primary motivation behind this work.
