Submillimeter and FIR CO and H2O line emission from collapsing protostellar envelopesComputed far infrared (FIR) CO and H2O line spectra from collapsing envelopes around low mass protostars are presented. It is shown how high resolution observations of the CO and H2O rotational lines in the Far Infrared and Submillimeter Telescope (FIRST) wavelength range can be used to demonstrate the presence of infall, and to measure the central mass of the protostar. Selected H2O lines can be used to provide estimates of the mass accretion rate, and of the amount of water evaporated from the ice mantles and injected in the gas phase.
