High Resolution X-ray ImagingImproved image quality is of central importance to the future of X ray astronomy. We show that the optical tolerances necessary to push the quality of grazing incidence telescopes well beyond their current one arcsecond limit, are achievable. We also discuss a new approach to X ray optics that has been under development and is already showing resolution as high a 0.1 arcseconds. We argue that diffraction limited resolution should be considered as a viable goal for a new start among the next generation observatories, and follow the line of reasoning into X ray interferometry as a long term goal.
