Two Nights on a Flying Observatory: A KAO JournalWe are the first participants in the "Science in the Stratosphere" program, sponsored by NASA and the University of Texas at Austin. The purpose of the program is to bring the techniques and excitement of modem astronomy into the classroom. Our job is to become familiar with the normal KAO operations, and learn from the staff and scientists during an actual observing flight. We are going to fly on missions to observe galactic and extragalactic star-forming regions in the far infrared region of the spectrum. All of our expectations spring from this simple working description. Little do we know, however, what really lies ahead for us!
