X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Study of the Effect of Hydrocarbon Contamination on Poly(Tetrafluoroethylene) Exposed to a Nitrogen PlasmaIn this note, we show that X-ray photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) data and the changes in surface properties attending exposure of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) films to a nitrogen plasma can likewise be misinterpreted when the interfering role of minor surface hydrocarbon contamination is not taken into account.
