Control of Convection by Dynamic Magnetic Fields for VB, FZ and THM Crystal Growth ApplicationThe Traveling Magnetic Field (TMF) technique, recently proposed to control meridional flow in electrically conducting melts is reviewed. In particular, the natural convection damping capability of this technique has been numerically demonstrated with the implication of significantly improving crystal quality. Advantages of the traveling magnetic field, in comparison to the more mature rotating magnetic field method, are discussed. Finally, a detailed one-dimensional planar TMF model has been developed and is presented.
