Solar Wind/Magnetosphere/Ionosphere Coupling and the Temporal and Spatial Evolution of Boundary Layers using Cluster, Polar and other ISTP SatellitesOur analysis concerns macro and meso-scale aspects of coupling between the IMF and the magnetosphere-ionosphere system, as opposed to the microphysics of determining how electron gyrotropy is broken and merging actually occurs. We correlate observed behaviors at Cluster and at Polar with temporal variations in other regions, such as in the ionosphere as measured by SuperDARN. Addressing problems with simultaneous observations from diverse locations properly constrains our interpretations.
