New Views of the Martian Polar Regions: The Latest Results from the Mars Odyssey THEMIS InvestigationOne of the many questions of Martian exploration is to uncover the history of Mars, through analysis of the polar layered deposits (PLD). Martian polar ice caps hold most of the exposed water ice on the surface of Mars and yet their history and physical processes involved in their formation are unclear. In this work we present the latest imaging data acquired by the Mars Odyssey THermal EMission Imaging System (THEMIS) from the South Polar Residual Deposits (SPLD). We will concentrate our analysis on differences observed by THEMIS in winter/early spring and summer periods.
