Polar lipid composition of a new halobacteriumInvestigations of the polar lipid composition of a new aerobic, extremely halophilic aracheabacterium capable of nitrate reduction have shown that this organism contains two previously unknown phospholycolipids derived from diphytanyl glycerol diethers. Comparison of the lipid pattern from this new isolate with other known strains indicate that this organism is novel. On the basis of the unique polar lipid pattern it can be concluded that this organism represents a new taxon, at least at the species level.
