Fault Segmentation and Martian PaleohydrologyThis project was approved for only one year of funding instead of the proposed three, necessitating a major scope of the work. For the single year, the PI and a graduate student (Cheryl Goudy) focused on investigating the topographic signatures of grabens in the Tharsis region of Mars to see if the signature of an underlying igneous dike could be found. We were able to discern dikes beneath several Tharsis grabens, providing the first definitive evidence for igneous dikes in Tharsis. As a result of this grant, we published one paper, with one submitted; 3 presentations were given at AGU and at LPSC, and all were favorably received.
