Simultaneous X-Ray and Optical Timing Observations of GX 339-4The goal of this proposal was to perform the first comprehensive study of the correlated x-ray and optical variability of the Galactic accreting black hole candidate GX 339-4 using the x-ray and optical instruments on XMM-Newton. With these observations, we hoped to make significant progress in understanding the coupled inflow - outflow system around a persistently accreting stellar mass black hole. The work on this project is being led by the European Science PI. The data is fully reduced. This includes the data analysis for all of the instruments on XMM-Newton, the EPIC-PN, the EPIC-MOS, the RGS, and the OM. The results are now being prepared for results for publication and will be submitted for publication after the completion of this grant.
