Model of hollow cathode operation and life limiting mechanismsIn this paper we apply results from the extensive traveling wave tube vacuum barium impregnated cathode literature to the hollow cathodes used in ion thrusters. We show that the observed space station cathode life is in general agreement with published barium evaporation rates.
