Opportunities and limitations in low earth subsonic testing for qualification of extraterrestrial supersonic parachute designsParachutes for Mars and other planetary missions often need to operate at supersonic speeds in very low density atmospheres. Flight testing of such parachutes at appropriate conditions in the Earth's atmosphere is possible at high altitudes.
