Thermal Radiation Properties of Solids at Low TemperaturesThis paper provides introductory remarks for the symposium session on thermal radiation properties of solids in the range 0°-200° K. A qualitative description is given of that part of the theory that is unique to low temperatures, after which experimental methods appropriate to low temperatures and present applications of low temperature data are sketched.
