Fluid damping reduces bellows seal fatigue failuresService life of a bellows-type seal in the presence of mechanical vibration is increased by a system of interconnected bellows with intervening cavities filled with a fluid which damps the amplitude of periodic deflection of the sealing bellows. Different damping fluids are used according to environmental conditions.
