Lightning Hazard to Rockets During Launch IIIn designing a lightning warning system for rocket launch areas, one has to take into account that the greatest danger to a rocket is not an accidental strike by natural lightning but the high probability that a rocket will trigger its own lightning discharge, if it enters areas inside a cloud with strong electric fields (Kasemir, 1969).
