Lunar orbital mass spectrometer experimentThe experiment to measure the composition and distribution of the ambient lunar atmosphere by mass spectrometer is reported. The lunar orbital mass spectrometer is described along with the calibration procedures for the instrument. Preliminary results indicate that a large number of gas molecules were observed in the vicinity of the spacecraft in lunar orbit. Many of these molecules are considered to be of spacecraft origin.
