Basic Turbine ConceptsTurbine geometric, flow, energy transfer, efficiency, and performance characteristics are considered by the use of definitions, diagrams, and dimensionless parameters. Emphasis is placed on the determination of the fluid velocity as it passes from one blade row to the next. The general methods for constructing velocity diagrams and relating them to the work and flow capacity of the turbine are discussed.
