Substorm related changes in the geomagnetic tail - The growth phase.The details of two substorms of August 15, 1968, are discussed, and the sequence of events occurring during a magnetospheric substorm is established. Special attention is given to the substorm effects on the geometry of the near tail region and, particularly, to the growth and expansion phases.
