Gettering capsule for removing oxygen from liquid lithium systemsCapsule consisting of tantalum shell lined with tantalum screen and partially filled with lithium and pieces of yttrium is immersed in hot lithium stream. Oxygen is removed from stream by being absorbed by gettering capsule. Oxygen passes through capsule wall and into lithium inside capsule where it reacts with yttrium to form Y2O3.
