The study and development of an active scattering particle size spectrometer for space environmentsThe work is reported on laser operation in a vacuum, and the theoretical response of active scattering particle spectrometers (ASPS). The theoretical considerations connected with the thermal, interferometric and electrical problems that influence laser operation under vacuum conditions are discussed along with the scattering signal pulses with high frequency ripple content which were observed while operating the ASPS.
