Costs and ApplicationsAssuming an emissivity of 0.9, the total area required for SNPS radiators was calculated. An SNPS producing 13,000 MW of electrical power at an overall thermal efficiency of 56% would reject about 10,000 MW of heat. If the radiator has a length three times its width, then the width of the radiator base may be calculated as a function of radiator temperature. There are two such radiators used with the power plant. The base of a 750 K radiator for a 13,000 MWe SNPS would measure 200 meters, and its length would be 600 meters. At 1000 K, these dimensions are cut almost in half.
