Liquid sloshing in a tilted cylindrical tank. Two distinct fundamental modes are shown to exist for liquid sloshing in a tilted cylindrical tank. The 'long' mode is excited by tank motions parallel to the long axis of the elliptical free surface, the 'short' mode by tank motions perpendicular to it. Experiments show that the natural frequencies of both modes decrease as the tilt increases, and the slosh damping decreases markedly with increased tilt for the long mode.
