Plasma entry into the earth's magnetosphere.Several recent observation and measurement results concerning plasma entry into the earth's magnetosphere are discussed in terms of only one magnetospheric model believed currently to provide a relatively self-consistent description for both high- and low-altitude surveys. Some of the criticisms the presented overall picture of the magnetosphere elicits in the light of present observational knowledge are examined, and major uncertainties are reviewed.
