Relativistic stellar stability - An empirical approach.A quantitative measure is derived of the extent to which solar-system experiments imply the existence of the dynamical relativistic instabilities in stars. The Parametrized Post-Newtonian (PPN) framework of Will and Nordtvedt (1972) is used in the derivation. The PPN framework is a post-Newtonian theory of gravity with adjustable parameters. It is shown that for conservative theories of gravity current experimental limits on the PPN parameters guarantee the existence of the dynamical relativistic instability in stars.
