Optical module for the integrated real-time contamination monitor

The concept of a real time contamination monitor is studied and the evolution of the optical module component from laboratory model through the engineering evaluation model is reported. Mechanisms employed and problems experienced are described. Current efforts are directed toward a major simplification of design in a unit intended for flight.
