An experimental investigation of jet plume simulation with solid circular cylindersAn investigation has been conducted in the Langley 16-foot transonic tunnel to determine the effectiveness of utilizing solid circular cylinders to simulate the jet exhaust plume for a series of four isolated circular arc afterbodies with little or no flow separation. This investigation was conducted at Mach numbers from 0.40 to 1.30 at 0 deg angle of attack. Plume simulators with simulator diameter to nozzle exit diameter ratios of 0.82, 0.88, 0.98, and 1.00 were investigated with one of the four configurations while the 0.82 and 1.00 simulators were investigated with the other three. Reynolds number based on maximum model diameter varied from approximately 1.50 to 2.14 million.
