On the thermal history of the moon

The constraints that any plausible thermal model of the moon should fulfill are reviewed, and the shortcomings exhibited by models so far proposed are pointed out. A model satisfying the constraints is suggested. It involves a giant impact on the temperature distribution of the moon.
