Nuclear gamma rays from solar flaresThe theory of gamma ray line emission from solar flares is discussed. We emphasize the formation process of the 2.23 MeV and 0.51 MeV lines. We also give estimates of the spectrum and total number of protons in the flare as deduced from the gamma ray observations.
