Evidence of charge exchange pumping in calcium-xenon systemPresented evidence shows that charge exchanges between xenon ions and calcium atoms may produce an inversion between 5s or 4d and 4p energy levels of calcium ions. The dependence of measured intensity ratios on power input to the xenon plasma indicates that charge exchange pumping of the 5s and 4d levels predominates over electron collisional pumping of these levels.
