Low-Cost thin-layer silicon solar cellsTwo methods have been found to lower cost of polycrystalline silicon solar cells. Successive layers of polycrystalline silicon are deposited over supporting substrates of relatively inexpensive metallurgical-grade polycrystalline silicon, graphite, or steel.
