Does the galaxy possess a gaseous haloObservational data are presented that suggest both the existence of extensive halo slabs of ionized gas and the probable presence of a hot corona around our galaxy. Evidence shows that when considering the galactic plane this ionized or neutral gas has a more extended distribution than the HI component. The characteristics of the halo gas consist of the ability (1) to interpenetrate, (2) to be heated, and (3) to be in a pressure equilibrium with the intercloud component of the local interstellar medium.
