A review of surface-crack fracture testingA brief historical review of surface-crack testing and analysis is given together with some examples of service failures due to surface cracks. The factors which complicate the analysis and interpretation of surface-crack fracture data are discussed. Current efforts to develop consensus recommendations for tensile testing of surface-crack specimens are summarized.
