Ultra-lightweight pressure vesselsComposite tanks fabricated from two metal spheres which are pressure welded and then overwrapped with plastic composite are 66 percent lighter than similar all-metal vessels. Overwrap minimizes shrapnel effects, shifts failure mode to that of cyclic leakage, and withstands minimum burst pressure.
