Flow-field measurements in the windward surface shock layer of space shuttle orbiter configurations at Mach number 8Pitot pressure and total-temperature measurements were made in the windward surface shock layer of two 0.0175-scale space shuttle orbiter models at simulated re-entry conditions. Corresponding surface static pressure measurements were also made. Flow properties at the edge of the model boundary layer were derived from these measurements and compared with values calculated using conventional methods.
