Results of experimental tests in the MSFC 14 x 14 inch trisonic wind tunnel on a .004 scale model space shuttle integrated vehicle 5 (model 77-O, 74-TS) to relieve wing loads during ascent (IA71)Results are presented for the 0.004-scale orbiter, external tank, and solid rocket boosters combined as an integrated vehicle in a trisonic wind tunnel at mach numbers from 0.6 to 2.0. The primary test objective was to determine the effectiveness of several methods in relieving the Orbiter wing bending and torsion loads and moments during launch. Effects of several midwing spoilers, termed flipper doors, and Orbiter/external tank incidence were investigated. Photographs are included.
