Earth observation from geostationary orbitThe paper describes a number of satellite-borne infrared spin-scan sensors and discusses the operational requirements for which they were designed. The sensors considered are the spin scan cloud cameras of ATS 1 and 3, the SMS/GOES visible-infrared spin-scan radiometer, and the VISSR atmospheric sounder.
