Computer processing of echocardiographic imagesSystems for direct computer acquisition of the echo signal and subsequent computerized echocardiogram image processing were constructed. Such systems were used to generate images unobtainable by other techniques and to automatically perform quantitative measurements of cardiac structures (5,6,7). The techniques used in analyzing echocardiograms are discussed, and the complexity of the problems involved is illustrated. A description of how these problems may be solved is included.
