Prospects for cosmic X-ray spectroscopyAttention is given to solar X-ray spectroscopy, the determination of the ionization of gas and geometrical distribution of gas in binary X-ray sources, and the investigation of extragalactic X-ray sources. The HEAO-B satellite which carries a focusing X-ray telescope with three powerful spectrometers is considered.
