Approach and Landing Test Project

The objectives of the Approach and Landing Test Project are to verify the airworthiness of the 747 with the Space Shuttle Orbiter installed and to verify the Orbiter subsonic airworthiness and integrated systems operation in preparation for the first orbital flight. Attention is given here to the inert captive phase, the captive active phase, and the free flight phase.
