Environmental effects of the Space ShuttleRocket exhaust products, acoustic noise, and a sonic boom are produced during launch of the Space Shuttle. Their environmental effects have been assessed and found to be small and transient, or controllable by the choice of launch azimuth or launch conditions. Reentry of the Orbiter will produce a very low-level sonic boom over populated areas.
