Splicing single-mode optical fibersApproach used to weld multimode fibers has been adapted for more exacting splicing of single-mode fibers. Precision cleaver with tungsten carbide knife edge cuts single-mode optical fibers for welding. Welding apparatus includes micromanipulator, microscopes, and vacuum chucks.
