Commercial aircraft derived high resolution wind and temperature data from the tropics for FGGE: Implications for NASATwo programs involving over 100 commercial aircraft were initiated to provide global high resolution in-situ windfield and temperature data during the FGGE. The concepts developed for these programs could have important implications for both meteorology and aviation in the near term.
