Measurements of radiative energy transfer within the atmosphere's first 40 kmMeasurements of solar shortwave irradiance and terrestrial infrared irradiance were made aboard the STRATCOM VIII-a balloon on 29 September 1977 for respective periods of 3-1/2 hours and 23 hours. In addition solar shortwave irradiance measurements were made on 29 and 30 September at ground level. The measurement objectives and results are described.
