Orbiting mirrors for terrestrial energy supplyA system of orbiting reflectors termed 'SOLARES' is proposed as a means of reducing the diurnal variation and increasing the average intensity of sunlight for terrestrial solar power systems. The paper discusses orbital considerations for the placement of the reflectors, insolation profiles, ground conversion options, costs, and environmental and social effects.
