Photoelectric lightcurves of asteroid 18 MelpomeneThe asteroid 18 Melpomene was observed photoelectrically on six nights in 1978 from October 28 to December 11. A rotation period of 11.572 + or - 0.002 h with an amplitude of 0.30 magnitude was derived from these observations. The asteroid was almost exactly at minimum brightness at the time it occulted SAO 114159 on December 11, 1978. Several light curves obtained in August 1974 suggest an amplitude of approximately 0.2 magnitude at that aspect.
