Approximate solution in gasdynamicsOne-dimensional unsteady gasdynamics is considered. An approximation based mainly on the interaction of simple and entropy waves is adopted. A discussion supporting this approximation, based in part on shock expansion theory, is given. By the use of certain transformations the approximation leads to solution in terms of quadratures. Excellent agreement with exact numerical results is obtained over a wide range of cases.
