The origin of the solar systemA review is presented of the recent evidence that a supernova outburst may have played a decisive role in the origin of the solar system. This evidence has been largely based on the precision isotopic abundance measurements made in meteoritic material. These measurements are reviewed; emphasis is placed on the observed short lived isotopes Al-26 and Pd-107.
